Meet Sam

meHey there!

My name is Samantha and I’m a 26-year-old living and working in Ottawa. While studying Business in university, I developed an interest in holistic nutrition which was further piqued when I met a Registered Holistic Nutritionist. Now I am in school to become an RHN myself and loving every minute of it.

What is Holistic Nutrition, You Ask?

Holistic nutrition focuses on a natural approach to a healthy diet and considers the individual as a whole, including all aspects of lifestyle and personal history. This approach takes in to consideration mind, body and spirit to help individuals discover their optimal health. Pretty cool, right?

Considering I am an advocate for holistic health care and taking your well-being into your own hands, it comes as no surprise that I am also into fitness. I am a huge fan of the group fitness format, and teach regular bootcamp-style classes at Carleton University.

The Struggle is Real

Despite my interest in health and wellness, I have struggled with eating well and finding balance for years. When I was in university, I became more and more curious about nutrition and started trying fad diet after fad diet in search of one thing: weight loss. I understand how the media distorts our view of how the female body “should” look, and yet I constantly find myself falling into the trap of dieting in search of the perfect “beach body” (ugh). I started to feel that how my body looked was a direct reflection of my self-worth. I found myself putting off the pursuit of my goals and passing up opportunities, because I thought I would be more successful if I could just lose those last 10 – 15 pounds.

What is Nourished Life?
I don’t believe that I am alone in feeling what I have described above. I think that there are many people out there, women in particular, who experience the pressure to look a certain way and thus develop certain eating habits. Through Nourished Life and my blog, I am hoping to share my journey with others. I think that sometimes all it takes is for someone to share their story to provide a catalyst for others to make positive changes in their life. I’ve also been learning a lot through my studies and personal experiences, and plan to share some of that with you as well.

Moving Forward

My goal is to live the most nourished life possible and, by sharing the things I learn along the way, help others to do the same.
